DeAnn Golden is the Regional Manager and Senior Vice President at Berkshire Hathaway Home Services Georgia Properties.
She is a native of Athens, GA who was licensed in 1995 after earning her MBA - and in 2000, she earned her Broker’s license!
DeAnn is a trainer and coach at heart who believes that every day should be filled with learning and discovery “to come alive” more and more in life.

Tell us about the journey to your current leadership role? Were you recruited or did you ask for it?
My journey to the role I’m so fortunate to rise and serve in everyday started really by just saying “why not” one day when some opportunities came before me to network and collaborate first with other women in the industry about a challenge we were all facing some 17 years ago with new competitors entering the marketing and new tactics emerging to recruit our top loyal talent.
But, upon just one happenstance meeting ...and saying yes to join in on a discussion to share and learn...much of like what we have the opportunity to do with you Debra with moments like today….it connected a few dots to people I had crossed and my path ...and ultimately opened new doors about a year later to join the company I am so proud to still be a part of --BHHSGA.
I was so impressed being around passionate professionals that I continued the relationship and one day, by happenstance they needed someone with some of the skills I guess they felt I possessed and the leadership approached me about coming to Atlanta in 2004 to led the Training and Career Development Department…. So it was again one of those WHY NOT moments after assessing the competitors and reflecting on how this role would allow me to serve others… everything was in such alignment that I just took the plunge and here I am 17 years later.
Our CEO Dan Forsman’s first book study for when I came on board was Good to Great...great the right people on the bus and then get them in the right seats. Since 2004 I have been challenged with various seats on our ‘bus”...and that has lead to managing broker roles, opening offices, coaching, training, special strategic roles, our senior leadership team and most recently a regional manager.
What advice do you have for other women considering stepping into a leadership role like yours?
Yes, you need to be well skilled and educated on the business, be smart and knowledgeable, be informed but…. It’s not about being the “know it all” but “know how to help others” know more, achieve more, feel fulfilled. I’m 25 years in the business and learning every day. What I thought was most important to know “before” has evolved into more life lessons over time:
Be you. Show up everyday...be the type of energy that no matter where you go or what is happening, you always add value to the space and lives around you.
Know and remember your why...never waiver.
Then challenge yourself you ask :why not!”....and why not YOU!

And you’re keeping all of these in the air. You will soon understand that work is a rubber ball. If you drop it, it will bounce back. But the other four balls – family, health, friends and spirit – are made of glass. If you drop one of these, they will be irrevocably scuffed, marked, nicked, damaged or even shattered. They will never be the same. You must understand that and strive for balance in your life.
Was there anything else you'd like to share during our chat?
Another mentor challenged me to to find the find the fire and passion in my belly and always do what makes me come alive for world needs those in is willing to spark a light and fuel for others .
He made me do an exercise that i want to share with you all:
When you are 80 years old looking back on your life how do you want your life story to read...what makes you come alive? what fuels the fire in your soul? and how can you raise others up to be all they can be! that is the steps to what leading is about….being able to be surrounded by others who want to achieve the unimaginable .
Take the next hour and write or draw what that looks like and keep it. I pull mine out every year since 1995….
